Ever since the sinister Supreme Leader Snoke made his presence known in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans have been desperate to find out more about the enigmatic villain, resulting in a number of theories popping up. Recently, we got a glimpse of some Star Wars: The Last Jedi LEGO sets which featured a Snoke minifig sporting a very different look than he did in the previous film, which has led to speculation that, despite his deformed/disfigured appearance, the character may actually be human.
It's not a spoiler to mention that Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman won't feature the character's legendary (though perhaps for the wrong reasons) invisible jet, as director Patty Jenkins had already confirmed as much a few months into the film's production. However, it does sound like there might be room for the Amazon warrior's divisive mode of transportation further down the line.
Though Ridley Scott's Alien was, and still is, one of the greatest horror/sci-fi films of all-time, when the director returned to the franchise with Prometheus, he was met with some pretty harsh criticisms. It was a divisive movie, to be sure, and one that had many, many issues. That's why there was so much excitement surrounding Alien: Covenant, as it was said to be a return to form for Scott and for the series as a whole.
Let it be known that Steven Soderbergh has tabled talk of his self-imposed retirement – for now, at least – and is back, back, back in time for Logan Lucky, a NASCAR heist drama with a truly star-studded ensemble to match.
Universal has some very ambitious plans for their monster movies. That was made pretty clear this week when they finally made the whole thing official by announcing the Dark Universe. Set to be a shared cinematic universe not too different from what we’ve seen with Marvel and DC – except that it involves monsters instead of superheroes – it kicks off with The Mummy next month and will also include projects like The Invisible Man and Bride of Frankenstein, among many, many others.
Is the DC Extended Universe finally about to turn a corner? That's the question on all our minds right now, as Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman gets ready to charge into theatres next month, riding a wave of positive buzz and word of mouth. Of course, we won't know for sure what we're in for until those first reviews surface, but so far, it seems promising. And that sense of optimism is now starting to build around other projects in the franchise, too.
For 17 long, long years, Hugh Jackman brought Wolverine to life with such a raw intensity that it’s difficult to imagine anyone else donning those iconic adamantium claws anytime soon. That saga, one with many ups and downs, reached its conclusion back in March with the release of Logan, James Mangold’s poignant, R-rated finale that struck a chord with critics and X-Men fans the world over. And even now, almost three months since it hit theatres, the film continues to find itself making headlines.
Jungle Book: Origins – the directorial debut of motion-capture guru Andy Serkis – is in the midst of an increasingly lengthy journey to the big screen. The Warner Bros. project was shifted to an October 2018 release window last year – allowing for an increased post-production period - and since then, we haven't heard too much about it. Truthfully, there's a cloud of worry starting to form around the project, and rightfully so, but if there's one thing that we can at least look forward to, it's Benedict Cumberbatch's performance.
Dan Stevens as Reverse-Flash in the DC Extended Universe? It's not something we've heard anything about in the past, but after seeing fan artist extraordinaire Boss Logic's latest piece of work, it's certainly something we can get behind. Before we get to that, though, let's back up a bit.
On June 21st, Michael Bay will unveil his latest (and potentially greatest?) entry into Paramount’s live-action juggernaut. Word is that Transformers: The Last Knight will go down as the director’s last dalliance with those beloved robots in disguise, but with rumblings of multiple Transformers spinoff movies kicking into gear over at the studio, don’t be too surprised if (when?) the filmmaker changes his mind.
